That behaviour may no longer be appropriate to the person
you are today, and may be why you are on this webpage.
Most fears and phobias are defence mechanisms learned at an early age, which become less appropriate as we mature and develop better strategies to cope with everyday life.
A long forgotten, unhappy or traumatic event that occurred when you were young can leave you with a fear that you carry with you into adulthood.
It may not be as simple as to say you have a fear of spiders, or snakes, or whatever it might be - that fear is a result of your reaction to a past event or memory. With all phobias it is your reaction or belief that we need to deal with. Consider a spider phobia. Perhaps when you were a child you did something wrong and mummy shouted at you and shut you in your room... where you saw a spider run across the carpet. Now, as an adult, the sight of a spider triggers those childhood feelings, without you knowing why.
Through cognitive hypnotherapy techniques we can revisit that event and evaluate it with adult eyes. More often than not this will remove the fear or phobia.

Our five-year-old daughter had a fear of going in the car. We thought it was related to the car but it turns out it is all about not being able to get to the toilet on a long journey. Ali spent several hours with her over a couple of weeks and through play got to the route of the problem and helped Ellie to find coping strategies.
My wife would not go on holiday anywhere there might be snakes. She saw Alison three times and although my wife would not want to get up close and personal with a snake, we have since been to Australia and Kenya. And I did not think hypnotherapy worked.
